I wanted to create a more thorough review of iPad Pete’s iPad video lesson. As I mentioned in my first review some people might ask, why do you need a video lesson for iPad? Isn’t it all intuitive? From my daily experience at the Assistive Technology Center, I’ve learned that the answer to the last question unfortunately is no. I’ve been giving courses in different devices over the years and one thing I’ve learned is that a good course which includes the use of hands on exercises really is worth the time. Most people today use only a tiny fraction of the capabilities in their iPad and most people are learning to use it the hard way without any help. This is very time consuming and not efficient at all. On the other hand I can only give a few courses a year due to very tight time schedule at the Assistive Technology Center. I was thinking of making a video lesson course myself to save time, when I suddenly came over Pete’s iPad video lesson. I’m usually very skeptical, and I thought to my self that this might be a scam. Well I decided to try it out, fortunately for me I found it to be a very good and useful video course. The course are divided in to logical modules and today there are more than 100 videos. This makes it much easier to find what you are looking for. One of the videos showing you how to adjust the password settings is actually free, so please click the picture below to take a look at the example video at the end of iPad Pete’s webpage.

Module 1 gives you an introduction to iPad and an overview of the main features. This in it self is what I would consider to be an introductory course covering what most people would get in a beginner level course.
Module 2 gives you a lot of neat tips and tricks that really are useful and time saving when using your iPad online.
Module 3 is going deeply into everything concerning e-mail on your iPad, actually parts of this module is useful even when using a Mac or PC too.
Module 4 is mainly about using your iPad for reading all kinds of written text, how to improve readability, e-books, newspapers, web-pages etc.
Module 5 takes you through everything you need to increase your productivity with your iPad and it also gives you an introduction to some funny apps.
Module 6 If you love to play music on your iPad this module is definitely for you! It shows you lots of examples on how to stream, download, play and gives you tips about settings too.
Module 7 Organizing photos is always useful being on an iPad or any other device where you are handling pictures. This module is going to need a small upgrade with iPad2, fortunately for you iPad Pete is upgrading his videos and adding new ones quite frequently at no extra cost. Actually I wasn’t aware of this when I bought the course, but it makes me really happy to know that for iPad 2 and probably for iPad 3 too the course will be updated giving people much more value than a static course bought on a DVD or a book.
Module 8 This module shows you everything you need in order to transfer your iPad into a movie playing machine, from the easiest steps to more advanced settings, useful apps and formats. Connect your iPad to other devices and experience the full power of sound and video!
Module 9 shows you in easy steps how to manage your contacts, this is essential to all iPad users.
Module 10 Organizing your schedule shows you how iPad can become the most essential and personal device you own. Sync with other devices like Mac, iphone and PC!
Module 11 Find Your Way with Maps are really cool, maps on iPad is just wonderful. If you want to use it while you are driving your car or on foot finding exactly the places you are looking for and all the information about the places where you are going. It really gives you so much more than an ordinary GPS device. Personally I think this is the best module so far.
Module 12 Writing with Your iPad this is hopefully not the main reason why you bought your iPad, the module shows you how you can turn iPad into a useful device for writing notes, e-mails, text of almost any kind. Use the onscreen keyboard, but actually if you are going to write a book or a long article you should consider buying a keyboard to your iPad or perhaps even better, use another device like a Mac or PC. The iPad is great for many purposes, however writing long texts is not one of them.

All in all I’ll give this course a 5 out of 6. For people without severe handicaps it’s closer to 6 than 5, but I miss some modules about ability settings, universal design and layout. This is important to me as I work at an Assistive Technology Center and have to think about the usability for people with handicaps. However I strongly recommend this course to anyone who want’s to learn more about iPad / iPad2 and how to get the most out of it.
